JONES HALL 50TH BALL
OCTOBER 22, 2016

In October 1966, Jones Hall was dedicated as our city’s first performing arts center, designed to be home to the Symphony, the Opera, the Ballet, and the Society for the Performing Arts (SPA). Given as a single gift to the city by Houston Endowment, Jones Hall put Houston’s performing arts on the national and international map and transformed downtown in a way that no other building has in the past fifty years. To observe this landmark occasion, the Friends of Jones Hall have planned a series of events designed to celebrate a remarkable building that has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Houston as well as the arts organizations in residence when it opened, culminating with an anniversary ball in the fall.

THE JONES HALL 50TH BALL – A MAD MID-CENTURY CELEBRATION is scheduled for October 22, 2016 and will be chaired by Alexandra and David Pruner and James Postl. The event will include a concert featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman, a frequent SPA recitalist, performing with the Houston Symphony under the direction of Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The festive concert will be followed by a gala dinner and dancing to the timeless Lester Lanin Orchestra from New York under a spacious tent on Jones Plaza. We will pay tribute to the Ballet and the Opera, as well as the SPA and the Symphony, in a program that allows us to look back at these wonderful organizations in 1966 and celebrates all that they have become today.

We hope you’ll be part of this one-time celebration by joining us as an underwriter or attendee of this fabulous occasion. Pull out your most glamorous Mad Men era attire and get ready for a night that everyone will be talking about for the next 50 years!
